Seimeikyō, the sacred grounds in Fukuoka

Seimeikyō is the home ground of Shin Kenko Kyokai in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka — a sacred place where spirituality, beauty, and thought come together.

Its central facility, Seimei Kaikan, is an art museum where religious spirit and artistic expression harmonize. Seimeikyō is not merely a religious site but a philosophical space where spirituality, nature, and art resonate. From the Indian-sandstone architecture and rose-aurora stone to the brilliantly shining chandeliers, every detail is designed to intend the “purification of the heart through beauty,” so that visitors may cleanse their hearts in the quiet air and feel peace and happiness.

万教帰一館

The Bankyō-Kiitsu Hall

A worship hall within Seimeikyō, symbolizing the ideal that the world’s religions are essentially one. Built in 2017 on a green hill overlooking the Fukuoka cityscape, it enshrines the Thousand-Armed Kannon and brings peace and harmony to those who visit.

The image derives from a Thousand-Armed Kannon brushed by Meishu-sama himself, carved by the Buddhist sculptor Yūboku Mukayoshi with gold-leaf cut-work (kirikane) by Kaboku Nakamura. Through this Kannon it is prayed that many who suffer may be saved and that all humanity may grow happier. The interior uses Yoshino cypress and the exterior Aji stone; beyond its all-glass front the whole of Fukuoka can be seen — a design in which one feels the harmony of nature and city.

The Precincts Through the Seasons

Cherry blossoms in the precincts — **Spring**Cherry trees bloom and the grounds are wrapped in soft light — a symbol of the “purification and renewal” at the heart of Meishu-sama’s ideal.

Azaleas in the precincts — **Summer**The trees grow deep and a cool breeze passes through; a season of heightened oneness with nature.

The grounds at Seimeikyō — **Autumn**Turning leaves and clear air color the grounds — a season of gratitude that overlaps with the Natural Farming harvest.

Flowering shrubs in the precincts — **Winter**Leaves fall and the air grows clear; a season to compose the heart and feel the Light within.

Visiting the Grounds

Seimeikyō is the General Headquarters of Shin Kenko Kyokai — a space, grounded in Meishu-sama’s ideal, where one can experience purification, prayer, and harmony with nature. The Meishuden is the central hall in which that ideal dwells, a place of prayer and purification where, in the stillness, one may face one’s own inner self.
